Teaching Philosophy

I believe that music is for everyone, regardless of age or experience. It is a gift that allows us to express ourselves, connect with others, and explore creativity in a meaningful way. Because of this, I strive to create an environment where students feel comfortable, supported, and encouraged to be themselves.

My teaching style is relaxed and approachable, while still focusing on building strong fundamentals. I believe that technique, rhythm, and basic music theory are essential
tools, but they should never take away from the joy of making music. I aim to balance structure with creativity by helping students understand the “why” behind what they are learning, while also giving them space to explore their own musical ideas through composition and improvisation.

I recognize that every student learns differently, so I adapt my lessons to fit everyone’s pace and goals. Whether a student is just starting out or continuing to develop their skills, my goal is to make learning music enjoyable, engaging, and rewarding. Ultimately, I want my students to feel confident in their abilities and develop a lifelong appreciation for music.

Biography

I am a composer, musician, and educator currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Music Composition at the University of the Incarnate Word. I am a composer/arranger, I have experience with different academic ensembles including percussion ensemble, Drumline, and front ensemble. I was in two bands in which I performed live shows. I was also a part of the UIW Jazz combo, as well as the UIW wind ensemble in which we have performed some of my own original compositions for our concerts. My experience in performance, arranging, and ensemble work has helped me develop a strong foundation in piano, percussion, and composition.

I am passionate about making music accessible and enjoyable for everyone. I believe music is a powerful form of self expression, and I strive to create a relaxed and supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable exploring and growing. My teaching style is approachable and focused on helping students build confidence while still developing strong fundamentals.

As both a composer and performer, I aim to help students not only learn how to play music but also understand how it works and how to create their own. I like to balance structure with creativity by incorporating elements like improvisation and composition into lessons.
My goal is to make learning music an enjoyable and meaningful experience; while helping students develop skills they can carry with them long term and a lasting appreciation for music.
