Teaching Philosophy
Guitar is for everyone that wants to play, let’s get started! My philosophy as an educator is shaped by decades of active study and teaching. The guitar, absent from traditional school bands or orchestras, is most often viewed by the public simply as a complementary partner to a singer.
My approach honors the instrument’s full potential, guiding musicians aged 6 to seniors toward true functional independence through a literacy-focused pathway.
Because of the unique challenges the guitar and its fretboard present, my lessons move intentionally from simple concepts to physical action. I structure our time so students do not merely receive knowledge, but actively bring it to life, proving its truth through their own physical efforts.
In this supportive environment, mistakes are natural steps toward mastery.
Whether guiding a child through their first notes or helping a senior realize a retirement dream, I build an enduring foundation by simplifying complex obstacles into workable solutions. Ultimately, my purpose is to cultivate self-reliant musicians who possess both the technical freedom to command the fretboard and the creative confidence to express their own artistic identity.
Biography
Jorge Ortiz is a passionate music educator and creative professional who has inspired students of all ages for more than 35 years.
His lifelong musical journey includes studying Jazz and Classical Guitar, Woodwinds and Piano at UTB/TSC, where he earned a spot on the Dean’s List.
Throughout his diverse career, Jorge has performed in blues, rock, and jazz bands. He has worked in music stores as a manager of the sheet music, band and orchestra departments as well as the guitar, bass and ukulele departments, and he has owned and operated a successful guitar studio.
A dedicated instructor, he has shared his expertise in guitar, bass guitar, ukulele, and music theory across music schools, commercial studios, and charitable foundations. His enduring community impact is beautifully highlighted by the former students who now return to entrust him with the musical education of their own children.
A multidisciplinary creator, Jorge learned HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to build websites for himself and fellow musicians, alongside working as a skilled photographer and videographer.
Outside of his creative pursuits, he lives in Stone Oak, where he enjoys the local parks, excellent coffee, great restaurants, and spending quality time with his friends and family.
