I believe that teaching is preparing students for the next step in their journey. I adhere to a student-centered approach where the needs of the student are considered first and a plan is developed to help the students reach their goals.
Dwight Fontenot has a diverse performance and teaching background. He earned his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of North Texas and his Master of Music degree from the University of South Florida. For the past twenty years he has directed bands from middle school to the university level throughout the United States, Japan, and Indonesia and has consistently received superior ratings in marching, concert and jazz competitions. Dwight marched snare with the Sky Ryders Drum and Bugle Corps for two years, serving as section leader his final year. He also marched snare on the University of North Texas championship drum line from 1994-96. He has shared the stage with the Brubeck Brothers, Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg, The Diamonds, Scott Piper and many more. Dwight has served as a Clinician and judge through out the U.S. and in Indonesia and Okinawa, Japan. He freelances as a percussion arranger, officially endorses Innovative Percussion Inc. and has published a rehearsal method book. He is currently teaching in the San Antonio Independent School District and is responsible for creating and building the successful band programs of the David Crockett Academy and the Young Man’s Leadership Academy.
